Back-to-back first team for Bandstra

East Marshall senior linebacker Samuel Bandstra scored his second-straight all-district honor to lead a trio of Mustangs named to the top Class 1A District 3 squad.

Bandstra was joined by junior defensive lineman Tim Benson and sophomore defensive back Bo Lee as first-team honors on the all-district squad. Bandstra was a second-team selection as a sophomore and a first-team pick each of the last two seasons.

Benson was promoted from the second team for this year’s first-team honor, as was Lee from last year’s honorable mention selection.

Bandstra led 1A District 3 with 100.5 total tackles, 82 of which were solo stops. He was also the team’s leading rusher, gaining 410 yards and three touchdowns on 110 carries, and was 6-for-7 on point-after kicks for the Mustangs (2-6).

Bandstra led East Marshall with nine tackles for loss, added an interception, and also handled kickoff duties.

Benson finished fourth in the district with 52 solo tackles, sixth with 60.5 total tackles and tied for first with three fumble recoveries, one of which provided the Mustangs with their only touchdown in a 53-8 season-ending loss to Panorama in the first round of the postseason playoffs.

Lee finished as the team’s fourth-leading tackler with 50.5 stops. He had a team-leading two interceptions while also serving as East Marshall’s second-leading rusher (234 yards, 2 TDs). Lee also added six receptions for 74 yards out of the backfield.

Second-team all-district honors went to senior wide receiver Dane Thompson, junior linebacker Garrett Kerber and senior punter Logan Bowie. East Marshall senior Tayte Nauman and sophomore Gage Overton received honorable mention all-district.
