DES MOINES — It was wire-to-wire dominance for the Drake women’s basketball team as the Bulldogs bludgeoned Indiana State 90-40 in the first game of their weekend series on Friday night at the Knapp Center.

Maddie Monahan led four Bulldogs in double figures with 17 points, going 4-for-5 from 3-point range, and Drake (6-6, 4-1) outscored the Sycamores 70-24 over the last three quarters.

Indiana State (4-6, 1-4) shot just 23.2 percent from the field, going 16-for-69 from the field while going just 3-for-21 (14.3 percent) from 3-point range. The Sycamores even shot poorly from the free-throw line, finishing 5-for-15 (33 percent) from the charity stripe.

Drake played unselfish basketball and controlled the court, registering 29 assists on 35 made baskets while scoring 52 points in the paint.

Grace Berg and Maddie Bair both scored 16 points and Monica Burich had 12 more for the Bulldogs, who closed the first half on a 19-0 run and extended the streak to 24 points in a row with the first five of the third period.

Drake also outrebounded Indiana State by a whopping margin, 55-33, led by Allie Wooldridge’s nine boards.

Marie Hunter led the Sycamores with 10 points.

The two teams meet again today at 3 p.m.
