Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball coach Steve Garber announced his impending retirement after 36 seasons of coaching, including the last eight at MCC.

Garber took over the MCC women’s basketball program in 2013 and led the Tigers to 18 wins, the most for the team since 2011. The early highlight was a win at the NJCAA Division I level against fourth-ranked Iowa Western.

Garber came to MCC as a national champion, having won the NJCAA crown at Illinois Central in 2006. He went 230-69 in his time at Illinois Central.

“We wish him all the best on his retirement from coaching,” said MCC athletic director John Kriebs. “He has done amazing things for this program and department and has done it with class and dignity.”
