Tigers win high-scoring tilt with Tritons

Marshalltown Community College men’s soccer continued its unbeaten run with a comeback win against Iowa Central CC Saturday afternoon.

The No. 13 Tigers fell behind in the first half, but three second-half goals secured a 3-2 victory to move to 4-1-1 on the season after a draw with Indian Hills Thursday.

The Tritons took the lead in the first half through Kouadio Koffi, leaving MCC with a lot of work to do in the second half.

But 12 minutes into the second half the Tigers were level through Yushi Nagao, and in the 67th minute Rene Hernandez scored to flip the game on its head and give MCC its first lead of the day.

Jhancarlo Palma sealed the game with a goal in the 89th minute off a Seiya Yen assist.

Iowa Central scored in the last minute of the game through Danijel Bozic, but it was merely a consolation goal.

MCC took 12 shots, put nine of them on target and had two yellow cards — one each for Rene Hernandez and Pedro Casado, both in the second half.

The Tigers’ next game is Monday at No. 3 Iowa Western CC in Council Bluffs.
