PREP ROUND-UP: North Tama girls pile up PRs at Iowa Star meet

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — Four teams finished within eight points at the top of the Iowa Star Conference girls’ track and field meet on Thursday at Meskwaki Settlement School, with Collins-Maxwell emerging as the team champion.

North Tama scored 95 points and settled for fourth place, following Collins-Maxwell (103), Baxter (99) and Don Bosco (98). Meskwaki was ninth (39) and GMG took 10th (35) in the 13-team meet.

North Tama notched first-place finishes in seven events, including three individual races, three field events and one relay. Grace Lidgett posted a pair of personal-best times to win the 1,500- and the 3,000-meter runs. Lidgett clocked in at 5 minutes, 17.30 seconds to win the 1,500 and 11:26.89 in the 3,000. Jules Breakenridge won the 800 in a personal-receord time of 2:36.67.

Rylee McLean set personal records with both of her winning throws, clearing 32 feet, 1 1/2 inches to win the shot put and 123-7 to take the discus. Abby DeBoef won the high jump after clearing 4-6.

The Redhawks’ relay win came in the distance medley as Jade Rausch, DeBoef, Breakenridge and Lidgett got gold in 4:39.58. North Tama’s 4×800 team of Breakenridge, Olivia Ketter, Larissa Morrison and Jamie Jacobs came away second in 11:13.94.

Meskwaki’s top performer was Shye Johnson, who finished second in the 800 (2:38.32), fourth in the 1,500 (5:38.41) and fourth in the long jump (14-10 1/2). Sia Bear scored third in the long jump (14-11 1/2).

GMG crowned an individual champion in Sydney Vavroch, who won the long jump with a leap of 15-8. Adelyn Sienknecht took second in the discus (94-6) and third in the shot put (29-9 1/2), while the Wolverines’ distance medley relay team of Vavroch, Emily Vaughn, Lesli Waltermire and Angel Schewe scored silver in 4:58.97.

Redhawk, Warrior boys crown one champ each

MESKWAKI SETTLEMENT — The North Tama boys’ track and field team finished in fifth place at the Iowa Star Conference meet on Thursday night at Meskwaki Settlement School, scoring one event victory along the way.

Tripoli ran away with the team title, scoring 130 points to distance itself from the field. Collins-Maxwell was second (88), Dunkerton third (81), Colo-NESCO fourth (73.5) and North Tama fifth (69) in the 13-team invite. Meskwaki placed 10th (36) and GMG was 12th (15.5).

North Tama’s conference title came in the 4×200-meter relay, as Nathan Kucera, Logan Rausch, Devin McKinley and Ayden Staker sprinted to first place in a time of 1 minute, 40.19 seconds.

Sam Snyder posted a pair of personal-record times on his way to runner-up finishes in the 1,600 (5:02.04) and the 3,200 (10:51.92), and he was fourth in the 800 (2:14.63). The Redhawks placed third in both the 4×100 (Gabe Kopriva, Rausch, McKinley, Kucera; 48.11) and the 4×800 (Logan Kennedy, Adam Greiner, Michael Schrier, Snyder; 9:36.53).

Kopriva collected fourth-place finishes in the 110 high hurdles (17.06) and the 400 hurdles (1:02.58).

Meet host Meskwaki was led by Taurice Grant, who scored 25 of his team’s 36 points. Grant won the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 10 1/2 inches, was third in the 400 (53.71), fourth in the 200 (24.32) and fifth in the 100 (12.16).

GMG’s top finishes came from Conner Murty, who placed fourth in the shot put (42-3), and Noah Ratliff, who placed sixth in the 200 (25.04).

Distance medley leads West Marshall girls

MONROE — The West Marshall girls’ track and field team took fifth place out of seven teams in the Heart of Iowa Conference meet on Thursday night at PCM High School.

The Trojans totaled 55 points and crowned one conference champion. West Marshall’s distance medley relay team of Adisyn Young, Audrey Girard, Lilly Buck and Emelia Hauser topped the field in a time of 4 minutes, 36.57 seconds. The quartet of Buck, Halie Hohnstein, Young and Hauser placed second in the 4×100-meter relay in 4:24.79.

Hauser was third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:13.42), while Girard was third in the 200 (29.12). West Marshall’s 4×800 (Hannah Jovanovich, Hohnstein, Buck, Hauser) and shuttle hurdle relay (Olivai Gradwell, Delaney Nichols, Ella Wertz, Mary Wilkey) teams both took third place as well. The Trojans’ 4×200 foursome of Abby Tollefson, Avery Randall, Young and Girard got fourth place in 1:58.15.

Third-place finish tops for Trojans at Heart of Iowa

MONROE — The West Marshall boys’ track and field team finished last out of seven teams in its return to the Heart of Iowa Conference meet.

The Trojans totaled 18 points, while winning Roland-Story claimed the team title with 117 points.

West Marshall’s top result was a third-place finish from its distance medley relay team, as Grahm Nason, Caden Vellinga, Jarrin Goecke and Nick Thompson took the baton across in 3 minutes, 55.04 seconds.

The Trojans were fifth in a quartet of relays. The 4×100 team of Seth Larsen, Kinnick Christensen, Brayden Evertsen and Josh Pinnick timed in at 47.64; the 4×200 (Nason, Peyton Hart, Vellinga, Goecke) finished in 1:38.89; the 4×400 quartet (Vellinga, Nason, Hart, Goecke) crossed the finish line in 3:47.66; and the shuttle hurdle relay squad consisting of Parker Reese, Clay Cuva, Evan Nason and Preston Reese stopped the clock in 1:10.36.
