No. 2 Dodgers double down on Bobcats

FORT DODGE — The Marshalltown High School softball squad managed just two hits during its trip to Fort Dodge, falling 13-0 in three innings and 12-0 in four innings to the Class 5A No. 2 Dodgers.

The perennial powerhouse Dodgers hit three home runs in the opening game, one off each Marshalltown pitcher to take to the circle. Tristin Doster hit a pair of two-run home runs for the Dodgers (17-3, 7-1), who compiled 11 hits.

Fort Dodge junior pitcher Jalen Adams struck out seven in a three-inning perfect game and also went 2-for-2 with a double and a two-run homer.

Marshalltown junior pitcher Avery Mull was saddled with the loss in both games. She allowed five runs on six hits in one inning of the opening game, and then pitched all 3 1/3 innings of the nightcap.

The Bobcats’ two hits both came from senior Kailee Pollard in the second game of the CIML Iowa Conference twinbill. She singled in the first and third innings.

Fort Dodge was led by Tory Bennett, who was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Adams was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Maia Davis went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Lucy Porter pitched three shutout innings for the win and Lydia Lara retired all three batters she faced to finish off the Bobcats in the fourth.
