DES MOINES -- The Drake men's basketball team claimed its season opener over Coe College, winning 87-61 on Tuesday at the Knapp Center.
The Missouri Valley Conference favorites got out to a 47-31 lead at halftime and eased to victory over their NCAA Division III guests.
Four players scored in double figures for Drake, led by Tremell Murphy and Tucker DeVries with 14 points apiece. Murphy added a game-high eight rebounds and DeVries, off the bench, finished with six boards and two blocked shots.
Roman Penn and D.J. Wilkins added 11 points apiece for Drake, which won its sixth-straight opener.
Max Lampe led Coe with 15 points, Cael Schmitt finished with 13 points and Jarad Krause added 10 for the Kohawks.
