Marshalltown Community College softball player Reagan Emerick has signed with NCAA Division II University of Minnesota Crookston to continue her athletic and academic career after she graduates from MCC this spring.
Emerick verbally committed several weeks ago to Crookston but officially signed on Feb. 9. After taking a visit during the winter break, Emerick knew this was the place for her. She loved the campus, town and coaches. She plans to continue play at the shortstop position as she has at MCC.
"We have had our ups and downs but I'm excited to see what this year's team can do," Emerick said. "I have loved the people at MCC. It is such a tight community. Whether they know me or not they are always there for me."
The coaches at MCC have helped Emerick improve her game and specifically her hitting.
"When I started at MCC I was just learning to slap the ball," Emerick said. "Coach (Kirk) Steinfeldt has helped me with the swing aspect and coach (Russ) Jones has helped me with the mental aspect of my game. I am a stronger player now from when I first game to MCC."
Emerick has earned Academic All-Region honors every semester at MCC. She also received second-team All-Region XI last season.
"Reagan has really matured and learned what it truly takes to be successful at the collegiate level," said Jones, MCC's head coach. "She is a leader on the team and will be a big part of our success this spring."
Jones believes that UM Crookston will be a great fit for Emerick both academically and in their softball program, and that she will be able to help them build a winning tradition.
"Saying goodbye to Reagan this spring will be difficult," Jones added. "She has brought a ton of talent, energy, positivity, and joy to MCC and Tiger softball. However, I am very excited for her future. I look forward to following her career."
