Trey Sinegal poured in a game-high 18 points and Nuha Sagnia added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds to help the Marshalltown Community College men's basketball team hold off the Grand View University junior varsity on Monday night at the Student Activity Center.
The Tigers (12-15) led by as many as 18 points during the first half but had to withstand the Vikings' attempt to rally late in the second. Grand View (8-6) got to within five points of MCC twice in the final six minutes, answered both times by second-chance points for the Tiger offense.
Jacob Koontz scored a layup with 1:59 left to play to make it 75-70, but Sinegal put back a Sentwali Nalls miss with a layup of his own to give the Tigers a seven-point cushion with 1:38 remaining.
Grand View missed its next four field-goal attempts and MCC went 4-for-6 from the free-throw line the rest of the way.
David Roberts and Nalls both finished with eight points, while Lavarius Hampton and Keiver Marcano Longa each scored seven points off the bench. Aleksander Begovic tallied six points and seven rebounds.
Koontz led Grand View with 16 points and seven rebounds. Fadi Mott, Connor Robertson and Demarcus Wiser scored 10 points apiece.
