Marshalltown Community College softball's Aspyn Harrison started as a Tiger and will continue as a Tiger. Harrison recently signed with the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers to continue her athletic and academic career after she graduates from MCC this spring.
Harrison, originally from Shelby, Neb., signed to Iowa Wesleyan on Feb. 5. The NAIA school in Mount Pleasant offered her a scholarship to attend. Along with that incentive, Harrison's best friend and former Tiger teammate, Lexi Davis, is also playing softball at Iowa Wesleyan.
"The fact that my best friend, Lexi, is catching for Iowa Wesleyan was a big influence on my decision," Harrison said. "I loved the campus, coaches and softball players that I met. They were all really nice. They have a big squad, but I think I will do well there.
Harrison has enjoyed her time at MCC. "I liked getting to know everyone," she said. "Coming from a small high school it was the perfect place for me to start. It wasn't as big of a change as if I had attended a bigger school."
During her time at MCC, Harrison has earned Academic All-Region every semester.
Jones is excited for Harrison and her next steps after MCC.
"Aspyn has blossomed into a strong leader," he said. "She is always working either on her schoolwork, in the weight room, in the gym or her job on campus. Her work ethic will be very instrumental in her success in life,.
"Iowa Wesleyan is a great choice for Aspyn and her education. Their softball program is improving each year and she will have an opportunity to make an immediate impact."
