Duff triumphs in discus toss at Valley
WEST DES MOINES — Marshalltown girls’ track and field senior Lilly Duff won the discus title at the Valley co-ed invite Saturday, throwing a best of 121 feet, 2 inches to take home first place and the Bobcats’ only win of the day in the field events.
Duff also took a seventh-place result in the shot put with a best toss of 32-10 1/2. Sara Huffman was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15-7 1/2. Amaya Moore was 17th at 13-7.
Huffman took eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.43 seconds. Other runners to get top-eight finishes were Rachel Smith in the 800 with a 2:30.86 and Micah Blevins in the 1,500 after a run of 5:20.73.
The 4×800 relay of Blevins, Smith, Grace Rasmussen and Sydney Hotchkiss finished seventh and completed the race in 10:24.13. In the 4×400 relay Rasmussen, Smith, Thalia Gallegos and Alivia Williams finished eighth in 4:34.58.
Three Bobcat relays got ninth-place finishes. The shuttle hurdle relay of Huffman, Malena Kammerer, Anistyn Borsch and Ava Kusserow put up a time of 1:20.45, the sprint medley group of Kammerer, Borsch, Moore and Kendall See finished with a time of 2:03.54, and the distance medley of Clare Hughes, Zoe Boydstun, Gallegos and Hotchkiss ran a 5:07.39.
Up next for Marshalltown is a Tuesday trip to Cedar Rapids Prairie.
