SPORTS SHORTS: Trojans hand Don Bosco its first loss in rated clash

STATE CENTER — Tony McKinney drove in pinch-runner Carson Davis for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run as the Class 2A No. 7 West Marshall baseball team handed 1A No. 5 Don Bosco its first loss, beating the Dons 3-2 on Thursday.

Dru Wilder singled in the bottom of the sixth and Davis, running in his place, eventually came around to score the tiebreaking run on McKinney’s second hit of the game.

Will Dawley pitched six strong innings for the win, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six. Owen Siegert got the save, striking out two.

Clay Cuva had an RBI single, scored a run and stole two bases, while Kinnick Christensen singled and swiped two bags. Caden Pfantz also had a hit for the Trojans (8-4).

Ryan Naughton took the loss for Don Bosco (9-1).

Mustangs outlast Knights in cross-NICL baseball

LA PORTE CITY — East Marshall’s three-run sixth inning was enough to withstand Union Community’s two-run seventh as the Mustang baseball team took a cross-NICL clash with the Knights on Thursday night.

Blain Augspurger pitched 6 1/3 innings for the win, allowing one earned run on six hits and four walks, striking out five. Blake Neuroth walked two but got the final two outs for the save.

Connor Kriegel had a two-run single to drive in Tyler Fuller and Neuroth in the sixth, and Kriegel later scored the eventual game-winning run on an error.
