Ten Bobcats earn honorable mentions
A difficult season for the Marshalltown softball squad was recognized this week with 10 Bobcats earning all-CIML Iowa Conference honorable mentions for their efforts..
Senior Avery Mull earned her fourth-straight summer of postseason honors after a year as the Bobcats’ primary pitcher. In 18 appearances and 16 starts, she allowed 154 runs (only 104 of them were earned) and 153 hits, walking 42 batters while striking out 44. Her earned run average in the competition-rich CIML Iowa was 12.06 but 9.33 in all games pitched.
At the plate, Mull batted .196 with three doubles and five RBIs.
Fellow seniors Jadyn Palmer and Sophie Younkin earned their second honorable mention honors (Palmer in 2020 and Younkin in 2021) with Palmer batting .123 overall and Younkin hitting .333 in league play.
Youkin led the Bobcats with 23 hits, 10 doubles and 11 RBIs, including her only career home run in the team’s first-round regional loss to Waterloo West.
Junior Ava Augustine got her second straight honorable mention after 15 starts as a pitcher for the Bobcats with a 15.88 ERA, allowing 127 earned runs on 136 hits. She struck out 24 batters. At the plate, Augustine hit .281 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBIs.
Sophomore third baseman Claire Bohan and freshman left fielder Kennedy Feldman also made their second-consecutive appearances as honorable mentions. Feldman hit .103 for the Bobcats in CIML play and was a consistent presence in the Bobcats’ outfield. Bohan was the team’s starting third baseman for the second year in a row.
Sophomore right fielder Jordyn Daggett, freshman utility Laney Danielson, and eighth-graders Gianna Baune (outfield) and Kinsley Bowie (catcher) were also awarded honorable mentions.
Baune hit .250 in CIML play and .303 overall as the leadoff hitter for much of the season. She led the Bobcats with 12 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
Danielson hit a team-high .438 in conference play and .360 overall, only playing in half of the games due to injury. Daggett committed only one error in 17 games roaming the outfield, while Bowie was a catcher for much of the season and hit .136 in CIML play.
