Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball player Nuha Sagnia, from Serrekunda, The Gambia, has signed to play at the NCAA Division I level with St. Francis College in Brooklyn, N.Y., to continue his academic and athletic career. St. Francis is a part of the Northeast Conference.

“As an international student, my time at MCC was great,” Sagnia said. “The resources were provided for me and my fellow student-athletes to be successful. At St. Francis I am looking forward to working hard and to be the best version of myself as a student-athlete.”

The 6-foot-9 forward for the Tigers averaged 9.9 points per game this season along with 6.9 rebounds per game. He received second-team all-Region XI honors this season. He ranked seventh in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference in scoring average and second in rebounding. Sagnia tied for fourth with 0.8 blocked shots per game.

“Nuha’s best basketball is still ahead of him,” said MCC head men’s basketball coach Ryan Flack. “He had some good performances for us the past two seasons and was someone we really ran our offense through. As he continues to put on muscle and play at a high level he is only going to continue to get better. I can’t wait to watch his progress as he moves forward.”
