Ranked Rebels, Trojans tally lopsided wins

GLADBROOK — Sixth-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck scored 38 points in the opening quarter of its 76-8 Homecoming triumph over GMG in Friday’s 8-Man District 4 football game.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck (5-0) held the visiting Wolverines (0-5) to just three yards rushing and 156 yards of total offense. The Rebels scored five touchdowns in the opening period as Isaac Clark threw three TD passes and ran for another score to help put the game away early.

Clark finished 5-for-7 for 102 yards and three touchdowns, and Drew Eilers was 2-for-3 with 28 yards and another score. Austin Vaverka led G-R with seven carries for 136 rushing yards and two touchdowns against his former school.

In all, the Rebels ran 27 times for 286 yards and seven touchdowns, and averaged 11.2 yards per offensive play. Luke Riffey’s two receptions went for 30- and 36-yard touchdowns.

GMG quarterback Colin Teske was 17-for-27 for 159 yards. He hooked up with Jabari Woodbury for a 29-yard touchdown pass, as Woodbury finished with 10 receptions for 119 yards.

West Marshall clubs Cadets

IOWA FALLS — The Class 2A No. 5 West Marshall football team scored 36 unanswered points in the second half to handle Iowa Falls-Alden 42-14 in Friday’s District 7 contest.

West Marshall quarterback Peyton Hart threw three touchdown passes — all to Grahm Nason — and ran for two more as West Marshall (5-0, 2-0) overcame a 14-6 halftime deficit.

Hart finished 7-for-11 passing for 134 yards and two interceptions, and also rushed six times for 39 yards. Sophomore tailback Ben Gonzalez racked up 263 yards on 36 carries to lead the Trojan ground game.

Nason’s three catches all went for toutchdowns totaling 89 yards. Preston Reese added two grabs for 32 yards.

Caden Vellinga led the West Marshall defense with 10.5 total tackles and one quarterback sack. Austin Pfantz had nine tackles — four for loss — and a fumble recovery, and Dillon McMorran had 8.5 tackles.

Iowa Falls-Alden (0-5, 0-2) was limited to 219 yards of total offense. Quinton Jaeger had 46 rushing yards and also returned an interception for a score.

STC mauled by Mustangs

INDEPENDENCE — The South Tama football team was restricted to 137 yards of total offense in a 56-6 loss to Class 3A No. 7 Independence on Friday night.

STC quarterback Gavin Bridgewater rushed 17 times for 92 yards and his team’s lone touchdown in the fourth quarter. He was 3-for-5 passing for 25 yards. Nolan Upah had one reception for a team-high 14 yards.

Haydin Branan tallied 7.5 tackles to lead South Tama (1-4). Bridgewater had seven stops and Pablo Montez added 6.5 stops.

Independence (5-1) racked up 477 yards of offense. Quarterback Mitchell Johnson was 9-for-12 for 192 yards and three touchdowns, and he rushed nine times for 60 yards and two more scores.

DNH drubs East Marshall

LE GRAND — Class 1A No. 9 Dike-New Hartford pounded out 343 yards on the ground to charge past the East Marshall football team 62-0 on Friday night.

Jerek Hall rushed 12 times for 178 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wolverines (4-1).

East Marshall (0-5) totaled just 50 yards of offense. Sophomore quarterback Jacob Farrington was 4-for-14 passing for 28 yards, with Wyatt Benson making one grab for 15 yards to lead. Tyler Fuller ran 11 times for nine yards, but the Mustangs were forced to punt six times and turned the ball over twice.

Fuller led the East Marshall defense with nine tackles and Gage Overtone had 8.5 stops.

Saints shut out Redhawks

ST. ANSGAR — The North Tama football team couldn’t find the end zone in a 42-0 loss to St. Ansgar in Friday’s non-district contest.

The Redhawks (1-4) trailed 35-0 by halftime but allowed only one score after the break. North Tama’s offense was blanked for the third time this season, however, and finished with just 146 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Kolt Knaack was 13-for-26 passing for 124 yards and was the team’s leading rusher with 12 carries for 21 yards. Josh Dostal made six catches for 93 yards to lead the Redhawk receivers.

Logan Siemens paced the North Tama defense with 11 tackles, including one for loss. Ryan Hosek had 5.5 tackles and a fumble recovery.
