Panther women rip Saint Louis by 20
CEDAR FALLS — The Northern Iowa women’s basketball team got contributions from its entire lineup in the 84-64 route of Saint Louis on Sunday at the McLeod Center.
Maya McDermott scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Panthers (2-0). Grace Boffeli notched her second double-double in as many games with 12 points and 12 rebounds as well as five assists, and UNI got 27 points off its bench.
“I thought we did a terrific job of moving the basketball from side to side,” said UNI head coach Tanya Warren of the win. “We got some dribble penetration downhill to get to some open shooters. But our ball movement was very important to that. And I thought our kids stepped and made some big shots.”
There were five lead changes and four ties in the opening quarter, but Kam Finley’s 3-pointer four minutes into the second period gave the Panthers the lead for good.
McDermott scored 10 of her 23 points in the final quarter. Finley finished with 11 points.
Camreé Clegg led Saint Louis (1-2) with 20 points.
