Indianola boots Bobcat girls from regionals, 2-0

INDIANOLA -- The Marshalltown girls' soccer team saw its best season in nine years come to a close in the first round of the postseason as Indianola eliminated the Bobcats 2-0 in Friday's Class 3A Region 3 opener.

The host Indians (8-8) scored once in each half to advance to Tuesday's regional semifinal at third-ranked Johnston (11-4).

Lake Martin scored on an Angelika Miller assist with 14 minutes, 7 seconds left in the first half, and Brianne Cornell tallied again for Indianola with 20:08 remaining in the match.

Indianola had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks, while Bobcat goalkeeper Esme Chavez made 16 saves in net.

Marshalltown closed with a 7-10 record, racking up the most wins in a season since the 2014 contingent went 9-7. The Bobcats return their entire roster for next spring.
