COLLINS — Caleb Dvorak threw a four-hitter and Caden Hasbrouck drove in three runs to lead the Collins-Maxwell baseball team past BCLUW 13-1 in five innings in Friday’s Iowa Star Conference South Division collision.

The host Spartans (9-5, 7-2) scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and seven more in the second to take control from the start. BCLUW (1-10, 1-7) got its lone run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Walker Ashton.

Ashton had two of BCLUW’s four hits, while Cayden McLeland contributed a double and Logan Scafferi added a single. Hayden Schleisman took the loss on the mound for the Comets, allowing nine runs in one inning pitched. McLeland and Daniel Zoske each gave up two runs in relief stints. BCLUW pitchers combined to issue eight walks in the loss.

Trojans toppled by seventh-ranked Saydel softball

DES MOINES — Dakota Lake pitched a one-hit shutout and the Class 3A No. 7 Saydel softball team stymied West Marshall 13-0 in four innings for a Heart of Iowa Conference win here Friday night.

Lake struck out nine and walked two, allowing only a one-out single to Josie deNeui in the top of the fourth.

Aubree Greenwood got the loss in the circle for West Marshall (5-8, 2-6), allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning. Taylor Thomas struck out four in 2 2/3 innings before running into trouble in the fourth, when Saydel (9-1, 7-1) ended the game with eight runs. Mara Tarbell was the Trojans’ final pitcher, allowing four runs on four hits including Lucy Peak’s three-run homer to reach the run rule.
