Bobcat girls sink Indianola

INDIANOLA — The Marshalltown girls’ swimming and diving squad won seven of 12 events and defeated Indianola 102-82 in Thursday’s non-conference dual meet at the Indianola Wellness Campus.

The Bobcats went 1-2 in a pair of events and placed at least second in each of the 12 events. Abby Tollefson and Kate Hauser swept the top two spots in the diving competition, while Maisie Gummert and Libby Meyer made for a 1-2 Marshalltown finish in the 500-yard freestyle.

That was one of two individual wins for Gummert, who also captured the top spot in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 2 minutes, 13.84 seconds. She won the 500 in 5:53.05, with Meyer placing second in 6:16.94.

Tollefson took the diving title with a total score of 277.05, while Hauser was runner-up with a 185.7. Olivia Ver Steeg scored points for fourth place as well with her total of 160.85.

Lesli Waltermire made it to the top of the podium in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 1:05.41, while Averie Wittkop captured the crown in the 100 backstroke (1:07.41).

The Bobcats won both freestyle relays, taking tops in the 200 free relay with the foursome of Wittkop, Rachel Case, Leia Hernandez and Waltermire hitting the wall in a combined time of 1:49.77. The quartet of Waltermire, Gummert, Hernandez and Wittkop won with a total time of 4:08.06.

Marshalltown returns to action with an Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet on Tuesday at Mason City.
