PREP FOOTBALL: Mustangs close football season with a win

COLFAX — East Marshall scored the game’s final 35 points to defeat Colfax-Mingo 35-13 in Friday’s season finale for both teams.

The Mustangs (2-7) ended a seven-game losing streak by bookending the season with wins. Colfax-Mingo (1-8) led 13-0 after the opening quarter before East Marshall made its comeback.

Xavier Slifer rushed 20 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns, and Drew Wheater carried 23 times for 176 yards and a TD. Blake Neuroth hauled in a 7-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jacob Farrington for the Mustangs’ other score.

Farrington finished 4-for-11 passing for 100 yards, as Carter Lavender had a 45-yard reception and Wheater had a 44-yard grab. The Mustangs totaled 278 yards on the ground overall.

Wheater led the East Marshall defense with 11 tackles, while Cody Weaver had nine stops.

South Tama football sent to another winless season

SOLON — Fourth-ranked Solon sent the South Tama football team out with a ninth loss as the Spartans topped the Trojans 52-0 in Friday’s Class 3A regular-season finale.

South Tama trailed 38-0 at halftime and accumulated just 66 yards in the game. The Trojans finished 0-9 for the third time in the last six seasons.

STC quarterback Daniel Wiese went 5-for-10 passing for 17 yards with an interception. Running back Gavin Bridgewater had 15 carries for 40 yards, and Jeramy Dolash had four catches for 14 yards.

Bridgewater led the Trojan defense with 11.5 tackles and Kyan McBride had 10.5 tackles.

Solon (8-1) was led by Conlan Poynton, who had six carries for 104 yards with a 61-yard touchdown. Spartan quarterbacks combined to go 11-for-18 for 145 yards and three TDs. Solon gained 364 yards of total offense.
