PREP FOOTBALL: Trojans trumped by PCM ground game

MONROE — PCM outscored the West Marshall football team 35-6 in the second half on its way to a 49-20 victory on Friday night.

The eighth-ranked Mustangs ran for 495 of their 568 total yards, as Adrien Robbins carried the ball 33 times for a school-record 409 yards and three touchdowns.

Ben Gonzalez rushed 22 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns for West Marshall, while quarterback Carson Davis had 52 yards rushing. Davis was 7-for-12 passing for 114 yards with an interception. Jace Eich caught two balls for 84 yards.

Davis also led the West Marshall defense with nine tackles, while Michael Lechnir had seven stops. Andrew Tollefson finished with 5.5 tackles and returned an interception 54 yards for a Trojan touchdown.

Spartans pull away from Hudson, 35-0

GRUNDY CENTER — Class 1A No. 1 Grundy Center scored 28 points in the second quarter on its way to a 35-0 victory over the Hudson football team on Friday night.

Colin Gordon finished 12-for-15 passing for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Tiernan Vokes had five catches for 60 yards and a TD, while Tate Jirovsky had four receptions for 55 yards and a score.

Justin Knaack rushed the ball 18 times for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Ryder Ross had five tackles to lead the Spartan defense. Jirovsky picked off two passes and Brody Zinkula added an interception as Grundy Center held the Hudson offense to 83 total yards.

Redhawks can’t catch South Winneshiek

TRAER — The North Tama football team rallied back from a three-touchdown deficit but couldn’t catch South Winneshiek in a 34-28 loss to the Warriors on Friday night at Dennis Field.

North Tama (2-5) trailed 28-6 before scoring three of the game’s final four touchdowns. Quarterback Kolt Knaack was 10-for-21 passing for 263 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Junior receiver Josh Dostal had seven catches for a school-record 222 yards and two TDs.

Knaack returned a blocked punt 30 yards for a touchdown and also ran for a 16-yard TD to bring the deficit to its eventual final, getting the Redhawks back to within one score with 2 minutes, 18 seconds remaining.

Gavin Rausch led the defense with 11.5 tackles, while Knaack and Tyler Popelka added 8.5 tackles each. Dostal had an interception.

Kyle Kuboushek rushed for 142 yards, while Nolan Sabelka and Brady Ohrt both had two TD runs for South Winneshiek (4-3).
