West Marshall High School senior Owen Siegert recently signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. SDSU is an NCAA Division I program and member of the Summit League. Siegert was a first-team all-state selection in Class 2A and the Times-Republican’s 2023 Baseball Player of the Year. He helped lead the West Marshall baseball team to a 27-7 record, a Heart of Iowa Conference title and a trip to the 2A substate finals. Siegert, a left-handed pitcher, led the state with 133 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched, allowing just 20 hits, 19 walks, five hit batsmen and nine earned runs. Opposing batters hit just .097 against him.
