Bowling ’Cats split with host Ottumwa

OTTUMWA — The Marshalltown boys’ bowling team rolled a season-high score to defeat Ottumwa in Tuesday’s Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet at Champion Bowl.

The Bobcat girls fell to the top-scoring team in the state as the host Bulldogs outscored all girls and boys teams in the meet.

Marshalltown’s boys won 2,747-2,463 to improve to 3-1 for the season. Porter Niedermann led the Bobcats with his opening game and series, 213-183–396. Carter McCready was close behind in both rounds with a 210-182–392, Aiden Cowan rolled a 184-203–387, and Jayden Beichley totaled 193-182–375. Zach Morris rounded out the individual scoring with a 177-156–333.

Luke Sprau led the host Bulldogs with a 224-204–428.

On the girls’ side, Ottumwa (5-0) came up 100 pins shy of its season average (2,912.25) but still had plenty to put down the Bobcats, 2,812-1,908.

Sydney May led MHS with her 294 series, rolling 151-143. Ariana Villagomez had the high game for the team with a 136-153–289. Camillya Thomas totaled a 251 series, Devin Peterson rolled 215, and Zhixuan Li added a 215 to the individual scoring for the Bobcats (2-2).

Ottumwa’s five individual scorers each rolled a 313 series or higher, led by Hannalee Songer (395), Mackenzie Clubb (391) and Katelin Valentine (386).

The Bobcats are back at home for their final meet before the holiday break, hosting Des Moines Roosevelt on Dec. 19 at Wayward Social.
