SPORTS SHORTS: Neuroth scores 24, Mustang girls gallop past BGM

BROOKLYN — Morgan Neuroth’s game-high 24 points powered East Marshall girls basketball to a 41-19 romp over BGM at BGM High School on Saturday.

Neuroth was 7-of-19 from the floor with two 3-pointers and shot 8-of-8 from the free throw line. She added four rebounds and five steals.

Delaney Ryan grabbed a team-leading six rebounds coming off the Mustang bench. East Marshall also swiped 22 team steals, charging to a 24-5 halftime lead.

East Marshall (3-4) is at home against AGWSR on Tuesday.

East Marshall boys fire away, beat BGM

BROOKLYN — East Marshall boys basketball made 11 3-pointers in the Mustangs’ first win of the season, a 71-39 romp over BGM on Saturday at BGM High School.

Jackson Bidwell led the Mustangs with 13 points, including three 3-point baskets. Cale Hungerford added 12 points and Alex Jacobson and Blake Neuroth contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively.

BGM shot just 10-of-41 (24.4 percent) from the floor, while from 3-point range alone East Marshall was 11-of-29 (37.9 percent).

AGWSR heads to Le Grand to take on East Marshall (1-3) on Tuesday.

Meskwaki girls outlast Melcher-Dallas in OT

TAMA — Meskwaki’s girls basketball team won its third game in a row with a 53-48 overtime win over Melcher-Dallas on Saturday.

Sia Bear led the Warriors (4-2) with 17 points and added six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Kalayna White contributed six points and nine rebounds, Sophie Balderas and Sophie Schukahosee each finished with seven points and five rebounds.

The Warriors overcame a 27 percent shooting average from the floor and 12-of-21 shooting from the free-throw line to pick up the win.

Brant, G-R girls rout BCLUW

CONRAD — Olivia Riffey and Kennedy Brant scored in double figures for Gladbrook-Reinbeck girls basketball in a 55-28 blowout of BCLUW at BCLUW High School on Saturday.

Riffey scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including four 3-pointers; Brant chipped in 14 points and added six rebounds, six assists and seven steals for the Rebels.

G-R (4-2) led 27-17 at halftime before pouring it on in the second-half, capitalizing on 26 BCLUW turnovers.

Grace Farnsworth led the Comets (4-3) with 14 points and Klayre Gallentine contributed a team-high 10 rebounds.

G-R boys overwhelm Comets

CONRAD — Five Gladbrook-Reinbeck boys basketball players scored at least 10 points as the Rebels steamrolled BCLUW, 89-18, on Saturday at BCLUW High School.

Drew Eilers led the way for G-R (3-1) with 20 points and five rebounds. Austen Mathern scored 13 points, Brandon Mathern contributed 12 points coming off the bench. Isaac Clark and Michael Boyd each scored 10 points, with Clark adding 12 assists and five steals.

G-R led 32-4 after the first quarter and extended out to a 57-9 lead at the halftime horn.
