BIG FOUR HOOPS: ISU notches 16th straight home win

AMES — Tamin Lipsey had 14 points and six assists to lead No. 6 Iowa State to a 71-64 win over West Virginia on Saturday.

Curtis Jones added 12 points for the Cyclones (21-6, 10-4 Big 12), who remained unbeaten in 16 home games this season.

Kobe Johnson and Kerr Kriisa each scored 12 points for West Virginia (9-18, 4-10). The Mountaineers committed 23 turnovers, which Iowa State converted into 29 points.

No. 12 Illinois 95, Iowa 85

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Coleman Hawkins scored 30 points and No. 12 Illinois rallied from a seven-point deficit in the second half to beat Iowa 95-85 on Saturday.

Terrance Shannon Jr. and Justin Harmon each scored 12 points and Dain Dainja had eight rebounds for the Illini (20-7, 11-5 Big Ten).

Josh Dix scored 20 points, Tony Perkins added 18, Payton Sandfort had 12 and Owen Freeman chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds for Iowa (16-12, 8-9), which led 64-57 with 12:15 left in the second half but failed to hold on.

The teams will meet again on March 10 at Iowa.

UNI 91, Drake 77

CEDAR FALLS — Tytan Anderson had 18 points in Northern Iowa’s 91-77 win against Drake on Saturday night.

Anderson added 18 rebounds and three steals for the Panthers (16-13, 10-8 Missouri Valley Conference). Nate Heise scored 18 points while going 8 of 15 from the floor and 2 for 4 from the line, and added nine rebounds. Bowen Born shot 5 for 13 (3 for 7 from 3-point range) and 3 of 5 from the free throw line to finish with 16 points.

Tucker DeVries led the Bulldogs (23-6, 14-4) in scoring, finishing with 28 points and nine rebounds. Colby Garland added 13 points for Drake. Atin Wright also had 10 points. The loss snapped the Bulldogs’ five-game winning streak.

WOMEN

Iowa St. 74, BYU 49

AMES — Audi Crooks broke Iowa State’s freshman season scoring record and finished with 18 points as Iowa State defeated BYU, 74-49, Saturday at Hilton Coliseum.

Crooks shot 8-of-12 from the field to push her season total to 476 points as she passed Megan Wilson’s record (460) from the 1997-98 season. Crooks also had nine boards.

ISU, now 12-2 at home this season, was paced by Emily Ryan’s season-high 22 points.

Drake 79, UNI 77

DES MOINES — An Anna Miller double-double carried the Drake women’s basketball team to a 79-77 victory over Northern Iowa at the Knapp Center on Sunday afternoon.

Miller had 21 points and 19 rebounds to lead Drake to its 16th win in the last 19 meetings with UNI.

Taylor McAulay added 13 points, including two critical free throws at the end, and Grace Berg scored 10 points. Katie Dinnebier had nine points and 11 assists.

Megan Meyer scored nine points on three 3-pointers, her best game since returning to the team in late January. Courtney Becker contributed seven points and grabbed 11 rebounds.

Maya McDermott led the Panther offense with 24 points. Kayba Laube, Grace Boffeli, Rachael Heittoila and Ryley Goebel scored 15, 12, 11 and 10 respectively.
