Tigers trip up Southeastern in regular-season finale

WEST BURLINGTON — The Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit as Joe Scott’s layup with 3.5 seconds left lifted the Tigers to a 67-66 victory over Southeastern in Wednesday’s regular-season finale inside Loren Walker Arena.

The Tigers (10-20, 1-3) trailed 28-20 at halftime but outscored the host Blackhawks 47-38 in the second half, bringing home the team’s first Iowa Community College Athletic Conference win in the last game of the season.

Rob Keys led Marshalltown with 17 points and four steals, and Mekki Sisk added 11 points in the win. Angus Ole added nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and Tyler Burrows added nine points. Scott finished with eight points and nine boards, while Joey Tollefson tallied two 3-pointers off the bench.

Olajuwon Ibrahim led Southeastern (17-10, 1-3) with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Raphael Gay added 11 points and four blocked shots off the bench for the Blackhawks, who will host MCC again on Wednesday in the first round of the NJCAA Region XI Tournament. The winner will face top-seeded Indian Hills on March 9 in Ottumwa.
