Hawkeye women bring in CBS record
MINNEAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark is must-watch television whenever she steps on the court.
Clark’s final Big Ten Conference contest was a memorable one. Iowa successfully completed a comeback win over Nebraska on Sunday in the Big Ten championship game, taking down the Cornhuskers 94-89 in overtime to claim the program’s third straight conference title.
After a slow start, Clark dazzled with a 34-point, 12-assist performance to help the Hawkeyes prevail.
The Iowa-Nebraska championship game delivered historic numbers for CBS. The broadcast was the most-watched women’s college basketball conference tournament game ever on any network. The title game averaged 3.021 million viewers and peaked at 4.45 million viewers during overtime.
It’s also the most-watched women’s college basketball game on CBS since Tennessee-UConn in January of 1999 drew in 3.979 million viewers. That game was a battle between coaching legends Geno Auriemma and Pat Summit, who went head-to-head in one of the most anticipated matchups of the season. The Lady Vols knocked off the No. 1 Huskies, snapping UConn’s 54-game home win streak.
Fans of Clark only have a few more chances to watch the phenom at the collegiate level. She already has declared for the 2024 WNBA Draft, where she’s expected to go No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever.
