Bobcat boys place 9th at Urbandale

URBANDALE — The Marshalltown boys’ track and field team had a smattering of placewinning performances on its way to ninth place at the Chuck Silvey Invitational hosted by Urbandale on Thursday night at Frerichs Field.

The Bobcats’ top performance came from the 3,200-meter run, where James Johnson placed second for MHS in a time of 9 minutes, 43.69 seconds. Teammate Parker Gooding took seventh in 10:29.53.

Marshalltown’s 4×100-meter throwers relay claimed third place, as Jaxson Hinkle, Kyan Gilbertson, Ignacio Macias and Owen Eaton took third in 53.70.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Marshalltown’s Gatleel Joar earned fourth place with his time of 58.34, and Salvador Ruiz placed eighth in 1:01.44. Aiden Smitherman scored fourth in the long jump, clearing 18 feet, 11 3/4 inches to lead the Bobcats in the field events.

Fifth place went to the Bobcats’ sprint medley relay team, as Fernando Garcia, Tate Riang, LaMar Johnson and Joar combined on a time of 1:41.05.

James Johnson took fifth in the 1,600 as well, finishing in 4:35.79. Preston Johnson placed eighth in 4:45.73.
