FORT DODGE — A drenching rain in Fort Dodge on Thursday could only delay the Dodgers’ defeat.

The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team improved to 5-0 with Friday’s 10-1 triumph in an Iowa Alliance Conference dual meet put off 24 hours by wet weather.

The Bobcats surrendered only two sets to the Dodgers (1-4), as Manuela Rodriguez got them both in her No. 1 singles triumph over Rebekah Downs, 6-3, 6-0.

Marshalltown made off with the rest of the sets, only one of which made it beyond three games for Fort Dodge.

Marshalltown senior Claire Bohan fought off Janelle Derrig in their No. 4 singles bout with a 7-6 (7-4) victory in the first set, and she followed it up with a 6-0 sweep in the second to put away Fort Dodge’s best challenge of the match.

Straight-set victories from Kennedy Feldman at No. 2, Ava Lucas at No. 3, Lily Zahnd at No. 5 and Callie Swanson at No. 6 helped MHS take a 5-1 lead through singles play, and the Bobcats put it away by scoring all five doubles bouts.

Downs and Feldman surrendered five games but got past Rodriguez and Grace Behrens, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. Lucas and Bohan bounced Sydney Gebers and Kaitlyn Folsom at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1, while Zahnd and Swanson secured a 6-1, 6-0 romp over Madge Hensley and Derrig at No. 3.

Ellie Hughes and Rachel Jones joined in the action at No. 4 doubles with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Lacey Larson and Claire Thompson, and the No. 5 doubles tandem of Kate Hauser and Kate Sandvick emerged victorious as well, 6-1, 6-0, over Evah Nostrom and Jessenia Elias.

Marshalltown returns home to host Ottumwa in an Alliance dual on Monday at 4 p.m.
