MHS netters notch eighth win, remain undefeated
DES MOINES — The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team squared off with another unbeaten team here Tuesday, and the Bobcats stood tall once again.
MHS improved to 8-0 in dual meets this season by roughing up Des Moines Roosevelt, 10-1, on a windy day in Des Moines.
Marshalltown made off with five of six singles matches and finished off the Roughriders (3-1) by sweeping all five doubles bouts to remain unbeaten this season.
The Bobcats’ No. 1 doubles tandem of Rebekah Downs and Kennedy Feldman improved to 7-1 this season with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over Scarlett Brown and Cate Bright. That followed Brown’s straight-set victory over Downs at No. 1 singles and Feldman’s thrilling three-set triumph over Bright at No. 2.
“I am very pleased with the way Rebekah and Kennedy have been winning their matches,” said MHS head coach John Fiscus. “Their shot-making skills have improved greatly in the past year.”
Feldman battled back for a 4-6, 6-3, (10-8) win at No. 2 singles. Claire Bohan also captured a three-set win at No. 4, beating Ingrid Alg-Liening 4-6, 6-3, (10-4).
Ava Lucas, Lily Zahnd and Halie Hohnstein all scored straight-set singles wins, and all five doubles wins were straight-setters for the Bobcats.
Marshalltown plays host to Des Moines North on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Marshalltown Court Complex.
