SPORTS SHORTS: Beeghly, Comet girls win home invite

UNION — The BCLUW girls golf team scooped up all the top honors, winning the Comets’ home invite at South Hardin Recreation Area on Monday.

The Comets shot a 382, well ahead of runner-up South Hardin (415). Lindsay Beeghly was the meet medalist with an 18-hole score of 83 and Sydney Anderson claimed runner-up honors with a 90 for the Comets.

Leah McEwen (104) and Gracie Andrews (105) rounded out BCLUW’s counting scores.

North Tama was third with a 427 and East Marshall placed sixth with a 480 team score.

Kylie Calderwood was fourth overall to lead the Redhawks with a 95; Larissa Morrison shot a 106, Briar Blake carded a 114 and Danika Wrage went to the clubhouse with a 115.

Delaney Ryan scored 100 as the Mustangs’ low score. Sara Weitzell shot a 105, Clara Crouse a 127 and Riley Anderson a 148.

Weaver medals at Comet Invite

CONRAD — East Marshall’s Cody Weaver was the only golfer under par as the meet medalist of Monday’s Comet Invite hosted by BCLUW at Oakwood Golf Course.

Weaver shot a 2-under-par 68 to win the individual honor by seven strokes over BCLUW’s Zaden Eggers, who won a one-hole playoff with Roland-Story’s Braylen Loots to earn runner-up honors with a 75.

Weaver made the turn at 3-under with birdies on Nos. 1, 3 and 5 and had two bogeys and a birdie on the back nine.

The BCLUW boys were second in the team standings with 326 strokes, trailing Hudson with 315. Following Eggers in team scoring was Mason Martin with an 82, Bodie Butler at 84 and Nate Bishop shooting an 85.

East Marshall finished seventh with a 360 and North Tama was eighth with a 413 team score.

The rest of the Mustangs’ team scoring came from Cade Burchland (95), Jackson Bidwell (96) and Wyatt Stalzer (101).

Tyler Popelka and Case Monat each shot 99s to lead North Tama. Kayvin Morris and Kolt Knaack shot 105 and 110, respectively, to round out the Redhawk scoring.
