SPORTS SHORTS: Trojan pair wins BCLUW’s co-ed alternate shot tourney

CONRAD — The BCLUW golf team placed second at its own Comet Co-Ed Alternate Shot Tournament on Tuesday at Oakwood Golf Course, missing out on the title by just two strokes.

The Comets finished with a 182 to trail Roland-Story by just two shots. All four scoring Norse tandems placed in the top 11, led by Makenna Carlson and Jack Birkland, who placed fourth with their combined round of 42.

The West Marshall duo of Allie Pfantz and Hunter Polley placed atop the field, shooting a 39 to lead the way. Polley paired with then-senior Ella Meyer to win last year’s alternate shot tourney title as well.

East Marshall’s Sara Weitzell and Cody Weaver came in second with a 40, while BCLUW’s Sydney Anderson and Bodie Butler shot a 42 and took third on a cardback.

Lindsay Beeghly and Mason Martin teamed for a 43 to place sixth for the host Comets, Leah McEwen and Zaden Eggers shot 47 for 12th place, and Delaney Legg and Nate Bishop shot 50 for 19th place.

West Marshall (186) only trailed Jesup (184) by two strokes for third place, while East Marshall (197) and GMG (246) rounded out the competition.

West Marshall’s team score included three rounds of 49 — Natalie Nichols and Holden Simms, Avery Stanley and Connor Kemmerer, and Rachel Randall and James Decker.

For East Marshall, Delaney Ryan and Jackson Bidwell finished 13th with their 48, while teammates Riley Anderson and Cade Burchland were 14th with the same score. Clara Crouse and Austin Crandon chipped in a 61.

GMG was led by Mariah Wood and Anthony Waters with a 58, while Kenzie Bartel and Kaleb Gill shot a 59.

Bobcat boys 3rd at Dodger Relays

FORT DODGE — Marshalltown boys track and field won four events to take third place at the Dodger Relays hosted at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge on Monday.

Carter Nunn won the 3,200-meter run, Gatleel Joar claimed gold in the 400 hurdles and Preston Johnson triumphed in the 1,600 in addition to running the anchor leg of the winning 4×800 relay team along with Joar, John Moellers, and Parker Gooding.

The Bobcats racked up 106 total points as a team, trailing Humboldt (158) and Waukee Northwest (153) in the final standings.

Joar was also the runner-up in the 110 high hurdles; other Bobcats earning silver medals were the 4×100 relay team of Fernando Garcia, Ethan Gorsuch, Tyler Englund and Tate Riang.

Bronze medals went to the sprint medley quartet of Englund, Riang, Isaac Ceniceros and James Johnson and Moellers in the 1,600.

Mustang boys 4th at home relays

LE GRAND — East Marshall boys scored 72 points to lead T-R area teams with a fourth-place team finish at the Mustang Relays at East Marshall High School on Monday.

Denver won the team title with 142 points, followed by Vinton-Shellsburg (112) and Aplington-Parkersburg (78). BCLUW was sixth with 60 points and Gladbrook-Reinbeck scored one point in 12th place.

East Marshall’s shuttle hurdle quartet of Jacob Farrington, Carter Lavender, Blake Neuroth and Cale Hungerford won in 1:06.51. The Mustangs added third-place runs in the distance medley and 4×400 relays.

BCLUW’s distance medley relay took gold as Alex Paxson, Carter Gallentine, Cael Keller and Cayden White finished in 3:39.91. White added a win in the 1,600 in 4:48.92. The Comets were also third in the sprint medley and 4×200 relays.

Marshalltown girls track competes at Valley Relays

WEST DES MOINES — Marshalltown girls track and field saw high-quality competition at Saturday’s Valley Relays at West Des Moines Valley High School.

The Bobcats were shut out of the team standings at the 16-team event won by Waukee Northwest with 120 points.

Freshman Niah Lott was 20th in the long jump at 14 feet, 5 inches. Addyson Lovelace was 21st in the shot put with a top throw of 26 feet, 3.5 inches. Anessa Morrison claimed 19th in the 3,000-meter run in 12:48.29.

MHS had a trio of 12th-place relay finishes in the 4×800, 4×200 and sprint medley relay events.
