The Marshalltown girls’ tennis team kicked off a busy week in the best way.

The Bobcats blasted Des Moines Lincoln to remain undefeated this season, ripping the Railsplitters 11-0 on Monday at the Marshalltown Court Complex.

It marked the third 11-0 shutout victory of the season for the Bobcats, who improved to 10-0.

“This was a great way to start off a busy week, with a trip to Mason City [Tuesday] and then a home meet Thursday,” said MHS head coach John Fiscus. “Friday we will have some stiff competition at the Ankeny Duals with Ankeny, Norwalk and Southeast Polk.

“This will help us get ready for individual regionals on Monday next week.”

The Bobcats mowed down Lincoln to the tune of 11 straight-set sweeps. The most dominant victory came from Marshalltown’s No. 1 doubles team of Rebekah Downs and Kennedy Feldman, who finished off Anna George and Samantha Douds 6-1, 6-0.

Downs defeated George 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles, while Feldman downed Douds 6-1, 7-5, at No. 2.

Ava Lucas scored a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Minhuyen Vo at No. 3 singles, and Claire Bohan handled Amalia Arellano, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 4. Lily Zahnd also got a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 over Paola Santiago, and Halie Hohnstein finished off the singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph over Emily Ortiz.

It was business as usual for the Bobcats in doubles play. Downs and Feldman, Lucas and Bohan, and Zahnd and Hohnstein cruised at the top three positions. Ellie Hughes and Rachel Jones stepped in with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 doubles, while Kate Hauser and Callie Swanson collected a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 5

Marshalltown visits Mason City today at 4 p.m. before hosting Des Moines East for a make-up meet on Thursday.
