SPORTS SHORTS: Comet girls dominate for Iowa Star title

UNION — The BCLUW girls golf team capitalized on home-course advantage to coast to the team title at the Iowa Star Conference Meet at South Hardin Recreation Area Golf Course in Union on Monday.

The Comets ran away with the team gold with a 359 team score. North Tama was the closest competition, 62 strokes back at 421. GMG was seventh at 530 strokes.

BCLUW also controlled the individual leaderboard — Lindsay Beeghly won the individual title with an 81 and Sydney Anderson was the runner-up at 86. The Comets had five golfers in the top seven overall; Gracie Andrews was fourth at 94, Leah McEwen shot a 98 for sixth and Delaney Legg contributed a non-team-counting 99 for seventh. Marissa Schnathorst added a 114.

North Tama’s Kylie Calderwood was fifth overall, shooting a 97 to lead the Redhawks. Larissa Morrison shot 105 to place 10th overall, Danika Wrage carded a 109 for 13th and Kinsley Even rounded out team scoring with a 110 in 15th place.

Mariah Wood had the low card for GMG with a 112; Stella Betts (138), Violet Jackson (139) and Olivia Maddux (141) were the other Wolverine team scorers.

Larson leads Spartans at NICL Super Meet

WATERLOO — Grundy Center’s Leah Larson placed eighth to lead Spartan girls golf to a fifth-place finish at the North Iowa Cedar League Super Meet at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course on Monday.

Larson shot a 90 to finish in the top-10 for all-conference honors. Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Chloe Bolte shot a 67 as medalist and Oelwein’s Grace Lewis was runner-up at 82.

Sumner-Fredericksburg (342) and Oelwein (353) also finished 1-2 in the team race.

Other Grundy Center counting scores came from Belle Ruth (100), Holly Lubbert (103) and Ashlyn Kuiper (106).

Sara Weitzell led East Marshall with a 107, with Delaney Ryan coming in at 108 for the Mustangs. Clara Crouse (133) and Riley Anderson (138) were the other two East Marshall scorers as the Mustangs finished 12th with a 486.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck was 13th with a 536, Stella Heinzel paced the Rebels at 124, followed by Mallory Wrage with a 128, Nattalee Brinkman shooting 136 and Piper Evans turning in a 148.

STC girls 9th at WaMaC meet

MARION — Mady Boriskey and Aubrey Dolezal had matching rounds of 98 as South Tama County girls golf placed ninth out of 11 teams at the WaMaC Super Meet at Gardner Golf Course on Monday.

The Trojans had a 420 team score. Solon won the team title by a single stroke over Williamsburg, 372 to 373.

Maddalyn Brown (111) and Ella Kopsa (113) had the other two counting scores for STC on Monday.

The STC boys placed 11th out of 12 teams at the boys meet in Shellsburg. The Trojan boys shot a 339 with Solon (304) and West Delaware (310) finishing as the top two.

Kaden Kopsa had the low round for STC with an 82. Daniel Wiese shot an 84, Kyan McBride and Jacob Hale shot 86 and 87 as the final two scorers for the Trojans.
