STORY CITY — East Marshall sophomore Cody Weaver won a five-hole sudden-death playoff against Grundy Center’s Preston Martens for medalist honors at Wednesday’s Class 2A Section 9 golf meet at River Bend Golf Course.

Weaver, Grundy Center and West Marshall sophomore Hunter Polley all advanced from the sectional. Grundy Center won the team title with a 297 — 17 strokes better than runner-up PCM (314). East Marshall settled for third place at 331, while West Marshall (355) was seventh in the eight-team tournament.

Weaver and Martens both shot 3-under-par rounds of 69 to tie for the low round.

The Spartans also got a 72 from Judd Jirovsky, a 77 from Tate Jirovsky and Jaxson Kiewiet’s 79.

Polley shot an even-par 72 to lead the Trojans.

East Marshall’s Jackson Bidwell tied for fifth place with a 76, just four strokes back of advancing to districts.

The district meet will be Monday at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City.
