SPORTS SHORTS: East Marshall falls in battle of ranked Mustangs

MONROE — Class 3A No. 12 PCM scored in five of its six at-bats in a 10-1 victory over the 2A No. 11 East Marshall softball in Tuesday’s non-conference clash.

Peyton Grabenbauer’s solo home run in the second inning accounted for East Marshall’s only offense in the loss. Rayne McIlrath and Libby Atcher both hit doubles for the Mustangs (14-3), who saw an 11-game win streak snapped.

Morgan Neuroth went the distance in the circle for East Marshall, allowing six earned runs on 14 hits, one walk and one hit batsman while striking out six.

Addison Steenhoek hit a three-run homer and Hadley Millang added a two-run shot for PCM (10-2).

Comets pull away from Bearcats, 9-2

ALLISON — The BCLUW softball team broke open a close game with a four-run outburst in the fourth inning en route to a 9-2 triumph over North Butler on Tuesday night.

Sarah Garber scattered 11 hits for the pitching win, alloing just two runs and no walks while striking out three.

North Butler pitcher Kamri Groen allowed just four hits and three walks but was undone by her team’s nine errors. She struck out nine in the loss for the host Bearcats (3-10).

Cassie Nason was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and Raegan Crawford went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs to lead BCLUW (9-6). Klayre Gallentine singled, walked and scored for the Comets.

BCLUW softball rips Raiders in Iowa Star play

CONRAD — Klayre Gallentine pitched a two-hit shutout and the BCLUW softball team trounced Dunkerton 12-0 on Monday night in Iowa Star Conference play.

Gallentine struck out six and didn’t walk a batter in the complete-game victory. She also had an RBI single as the Comet bats compiled 12 hits.

Sarah Garber was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Raegan Crawford was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, and Marissa Schnathorst went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Callie Swanson doub led and drove in two runs for the Comets (8-6).
