Bobcat trio honored on all-Alliance North squad

An arduous season for the Marshalltown High School baseball team still yielded all-conference honors for a trio of Bobcats.

Senior catcher Caleb Kusserow and junior shortstop Sam Greazel were named to the all-Iowa Alliance Conference North Division second team, and junior pitcher Zander Stupp was an honorable mention selection.

The all-conference honors are the second for both Kusserow and Greazel, and the first such honor for Stupp.

Kusserow led all players in the Alliance North with 22 stolen bases this summer, going 22-for-25 to lead the Bobcats on the basepaths. He also ranked second in the league and fifth in all of Class 4A with four triples, and was second in the North in throwing out would-be base-stealers with 10.

Kusserow led the Bobcats in most offensive statistics, including runs scored (26), hits (26), doubles (5), triples (4), walks (17) and hit-by-pitches (7). He also led MHS with a .299 batting average, a .450 on-base percentage and a .448 slugging percentage.

Greazel ranked second in the Alliance North with 58 assists from his defensive position, primarily shortstop, while also finishing second in the North with 13 pitching appearances.

Greazel batted .250 with 22 hits, three doubles, and a team-high 11 RBIs.

Stupp’s first all-conference accolade comes on the heels of a season in which he was the Bobcats’ most trusted and most utilized pitcher. Stupp tied for first in the league and was fifth in 4A with 11 starts, and he was tops in the conference with 56 2/3 innings pitched. His 53 strikeouts ranked fifth in the North.

Starting at $4.38/week.
