Four-peat for Siegert
West Marshall senior leads local dozen with fourth all-district honor
Twelve area high school baseball players were recognized by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association on all-district teams released Monday.
In the Class 2A Central District, West Marshall’s Grayson Shaver, Owen Siegert and Beckham DeSotel earned first-team spots, as did Grundy Center’s Tate Jirovsky. BCLUW’s Calvin Zoske earned the only Class 1A first-team all-district pick from the area as a utility pick on the 1A Central District team.
Shaver, a senior selected at pitcher, had an 8-1 record on the pitching mound with 66 strikeouts, 11 walks and 13 earned runs in 54 innings of work. He also hit .314 with six doubles and 25 runs batted in.
Siegert was picked as a first-team outfielder. The senior led the Trojans with a .441 batting average, hitting 13 doubles, 3 triples and 2 home runs with 31 runs batted in; he led the team in base on balls (29), runs scored (57) and stolen bases (43). On the mound, he compiled an 8-0 record with 99 strikeouts to 10 walks and only three earned runs allowed in 51 2/3 innings.
Beckham DeSotel, a freshman, claimed a utility spot on the first team. He hit for a .419 average, leading the team with 37 runs batted in on 12 doubles, a triple and three home runs. He also had a team-leading .563 on-base percentage. As a pitcher, he threw 18 2/3 innings with 31 strikeouts, 12 walks and five earned runs allowed on eight hits.
Jirovsky, a Grundy Center senior selected at pitcher, was 8-0 in 10 appearances with 65 strikeouts, eight walks and four earned runs allowed in 39 2/3 innings. Jirovsky hit .390 at the dish with seven doubles and 12 RBI.
Second-team Central District nods went to West Marshall pitcher Noah DeSotel, Trojan catcher AJ Dee and Grundy Center second baseman Brody Zinkula.
Noah DeSotel struck out 51 with 15 walks in 52.1 innings, posting a 7-0 record; Dee hit .365 with 11 doubles, 26 runs batted in and a .555 on-base percentage. Zinkula hit .329, slapping 7 doubles, 2 triples and knocking in 11 runs along with 16 stolen bases.
In Class 1A, Zoske hit .452 for the Comets with team-leading marks of eight doubles, two home runs, 27 runs batted in, and a .549 on-base percentage.
Central District second-teamers included North Tama first baseman Josh Dostal and utility pick Kayler Morris, BCLUW shortstop Cael Keller and Gladbrook-Reinbeck’s Drew Eilers at utility.
Dostal hit .293 with 14 RBI and 22 stolen bases and had a 1.85 ERA in 45 1/3 innings pitched; Morris hit .302 with 13 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
Keller led the Comets with a .473 batting average, hitting five doubles with 12 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
Eilers paced G-R’s offense with a .309 batting average with five doubles, two triples, and 16 runs batted in and added a 1.87 ERA in 45 innings on the mound.
