BILOXI, Miss. — It took just four months for Tate Kuehner to move another rung up the ladder.

On Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers promoted Kuehner from High-A Wisconsin to Double-A Biloxi, moving the 23-year-old left-handed pitcher another step closer to the parent club.

Kuehner, a 2019 Marshalltown High School graduate, was a seventh-round draft pick out of Louisville in 2023, and a little more than a year later he’s already two stops from the Major Leagues.

Kuehner reported with the Biloxi Shuckers on Tuesday after a sterling four-month professional debut at High-A Wisconsin. In 16 appearances on the mound, Kuehner posted a 5-2 record with a 2.75 earned run average over 68 2/3 innings. He recorded 82 strikeouts and 33 walks while allowing opposing hitters to bat just .211 against him.

In four July starts, Kuehner went 2-1 with a 2.41 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 18 2/3 innings. He allowed only five runs in those four starts, including five shutout innings in front of a partisan crowd in Cedar Rapids on July 20. In beating the hometown Cedar Rapids Kernels, Kuehner allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out five in the Timber Rattlers’ eventual 4-3 victory at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Kuehner becomes one of just four healthy left-handed arms on the Biloxi roster of 15 pitchers.

The Shuckers lead the South Division of the Southern League with a 17-10 record.

Starting at $4.38/week.
