MASON CITY — The Marshalltown boys’ golf team charted three of the four best scores of the meet to win the Dick Garth Invite on Thursday at Highland Park Golf Course.

Freshman Joe Greazel earned runner-up medalist honors with his 5-over-par round of 77, while fellow Bobcats Ty Faltys and Parker Christen tied for the third-lowest round of the five-team tournament with 79s. Faltys was awarded third place on a cardback while Christen took fourth.

MHS senior Eli Polley posted the seventh-place score of 81 to round out the team’s scoring efforts.

The Bobcats claimed the team title by eight strokes over host Mason City, shooting a 316 to the Riverhawks’ 324.

“Mason City gave a good battle on their home course, but again our balance throughout the lineup proved to be the difference,” said Marshalltown head coach Lucas Johnson.

Greazel’s runner-up round trailed only Mason City’s Michael Solberg-Maas, who shot a 2-over 74 for medalist honors. Greazel, a freshman, had two birdies on the back nine to finish in with a 36.

“Joe Greazel played smart on some of the trickier holes on the front and took what the course was giving him,” Johnson said.

Faltys had a birdie on the front side en route to a 38, while Christen did the same in shooting a 39. Polley posted four birdies on the day but couldn’t avoid a couple bigger numbers on his scorecard.

“Getting a score in the 70s from Parker Christen was a huge lift to the team,” said Johnson. “He had a hot start and managed his game well over the 18 holes.”

The Bobcats are off until next week, when they head to the Ankeny Invitational on Tuesday at Otter Creek Golf Course.
