Siegert shines in All-Star Series
West Marshall grad voted his team’s MVP
PELLA — One last weekend in the West Marshall uniform yielded yet another all-star performance for Owen Siegert.
The South Dakota State-bound Trojan was voted the Most Valuable Player of his Small Schools East squad at the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s All-Star Series, rounding out his high school career with three games at Pella High School.
Siegert’s Small East squad was unable to win a game in the round-robin format, falling on Thursday, Friday and Saturday to Large East (9-4), Small West (10-9) and Large West (2-0), respectively.
Siegert’s standout performance came on Friday against the Small Schools West team, when he pitched six shutout innings as the Small East starter. The Trojan left-hander allowed three hits and one hit batsman while striking out 10, but the bullpen couldn’t protect its 4-0 lead in an eventual 10-9 defeat.
In the game, Siegert also went 5-for-5 at the plate with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.
For the weekend, Siegert was 6-for-12 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored.
He was voted the Small East MVP by his teammates.
