PREP FOOTBALL: PCM proves itself in clash with Trojans

STATE CENTER — Class 2A No. 2 PCM put a canyon between itself and the rest of District 6 with Friday’s 49-7 triumph over West Marshall.

The visiting Mustangs (7-0, 4-0) outgained the Trojans 402-144, holding West Marshall (5-2, 3-1) out of the end zone until the final quarter.

Vincent Clawson connected with Holden Simms for an 18-yard touchdown pass for West Marshall’s lone score of the game. Clawson finished 7-for-18 passing for 72 yards and was the Trojans’ leading rusher with 44 yards on the ground. Simms had five receptions for 61 yards.

Michael Lechnir led the Trojan defense with 10.5 tackles, while Kinnick Geers made 7.5 stops. Dawson Goodman added 6.5 tackles.

Adrien Robbins rushed 26 times for 221 yards and four touchdowns for PCM.

South Winneshiek 44, North Tama 36

CALMAR — The North Tama football team saw its four-game win streak snap at the hands of South Winneshiek in shootout fashion, falling 44-36 on Friday night in Class A District 3 action.

Redhawks quarterback Kolt Knaack rushed 28 times for 214 yards and all five North Tama touchdowns. He was also 11-for-19 passing for 128 yards, contributing 342 of his team’s 500 yards of total offense.

Tyrus Luker (63 yards) and Clayton Williams (61) also contributed to the cause as North Tama (4-3, 4-2) racked up 372 yards on the ground.

Kayvin Morris led the Redhawk defense with 8.5 tackles, and Knaack had 6.5 stops.

South Winneshiek (3-4, 3-2) got 401 of its 457 yards on the ground, as quarterback Carson Streeter carried 18 times for 307 yards and three touchdowns. Kyle Kuboushek added 83 yards and three TDs on the ground for the Warriors.

Waterloo Columbus 26, East Marshall 21

LE GRAND — The East Marshall football came up just short and saw its losing streak slide to four games with Friday’s 26-21 loss to Waterloo Columbus (1-6, 1-3) in Class 1A District 4 play.

Xavier Slifer rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs (3-4, 0-4). Eli Burns added an 88-yard kickoff return for touchdown to East Marshall’s total.

Quarterback Jake Farrington was 9-for-20 passing for 135 yards with an interception. Blake Neuroth had three catches for 63 yards and Burns added three grabs for 53 yards to lead the receiving corps.

Wyatt Stalzer led the Mustang defense with seven tackles, including 2.5 for loss, while Farrington and Drew Wheater both had 6.5 stops. Jaxson Boswell added six tackles, and Kaden Grant recovered a fumble.

East Marshall will host Alburnett and Colfax-Mingo to close out the season.

Fairfield 33, South Tama 29

FAIRFIELD — The first win of the season slipped through South Tama’s hands as the Trojan football squad fell 33-29 to Fairfield on Friday night in Class 3A District 5 play.

South Tama (0-7, 0-3) led 29-13 at the half but couldn’t close it down as the Trojans were unable to score after the intermission. Fairfield (2-5, 1-2) rallied instead, outscoring STC 20-0 in the second half.

Cody Blocker rushed 29 times for 133 yards and a touchdown, and Eric Medina had 22 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns for South Tama. Quarterback Tanner Large added a 3-yard touchdown plunge as STC racked up 253 yards on the ground.

Large was 2-for-3 passing for 49 yards, finding Anthony Thompson once for 28 yards and Marcus Bear for 21 yards.

Nick Upah led the STC defense with 10 tackles, while Kyle Youngbear had nine stops. Jaennette recovered two fumbles and Tyrus Clegg added an interception.

Luke Konczal rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns to lead Fairfield, and Zandrik Allison had 118 yards and three scores on the ground.
