SPORTS SHORTS: Trio leads BCLUW girls at Iowa Star meet

WAVERLY — The BCLUW girls cross country team placed three runners in the overall top 10 at Thursday’s Iowa Star Conference Meet at the Max Cross Country Course in Waverly.

Kalia Stover finished fifth in 20:29, Abby Kemp was sixth in 20:55 and Chloe Switzer placed eighth in 21:18 for the Comets. BCLUW posted a 36 team score, four points behind girls champions Collins-Maxwell.

Ceanna White scored ninth-place points and was 17th overall in 23:18. Izzy Morris was the final Comet scorer, 33rd overall and 18th in the team scoring in 26:24.

North Tama’s girls were third with 65 points. Rachael Murty led the way for the Redhawks, crossing the finish line in 22:00 for 11th overall. Gabby Seda was 18th in 23:19, Isla Breakenridge 25th in 24:49, Brynley Seda 29th in 25:35 and Ava Breakenridge was 35th in 27:40.

Meskwaki’s Kaelonna Kahler ran 31:06 for 44th place.

GMG cross country boys get bronze at Iowa Star

WAVERLY — The GMG boys cross country team earned a third-place finish at Thursday’s Iowa Star Conference Meet at the Max Cross Country Course in Waverly.

The Wolverines scored 85 points, finishing behind champion Baxter (35) and runner-up Collins-Maxwell (63).

Grady Dieleman steered GMG with a seventh-place overall finish in 14:54. Rider Kupka was 17th in 18:58, Brayton Davis finished 18th in 19:03, Henry Dieleman was 22nd in 19:23 and Drayson Stephenson was the final scorer in 45th in 21:09.

BCLUW was fourth with 102 points, led by Cayden White in third place overall with a time of 17:13. Tommy Hinderhofer contributed a 23rd-place time of 19:26.

Meskwaki was seventh as a team with 159 points. Emery Roberts crossed the finish line in 18:22 for 13th and Hagaa Slick Driscoll was 30th in 20 minutes flat.

North Tama did not field a full team — Cayd Cooper was 43rd in 21:07 and Levi Harmsen finished 51st in 21:58.
