DES MOINES — Addison O’Grady scored a career-high 27 points to help the Iowa women’s basketball team outlast Drake for an 86-73 victory on Sunday at the Knapp Center.

Drake senior point guard Katie Dinnebier dropped a career-best 40 points in single-handedly keeping the Bulldogs in the game, but it wasn’t enough. Fellow senior standout Anna Miller had a career-worst day, shooting 1-for-17 from the field, and finished with just six points.

Iowa (4-0) outscored Drake 24-10 in the second quarter, ending the period on an 18-3 run to take a 10-point lead into the half. The Hawkeye lead got to 14 before the Bulldogs fought back, using a 9-0 surge to get within 54-50 with 4:32 left in the third.

Iowa’s lead never dwindled below five the rest of the way, helping former Drake standout and Hawkeye head coach Jan Jensen get a win in her first game against her alma mater.

O’Grady shot 13-of-21 from the field as the dominant post player on the court. She added 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.

Lucy Olsen supported her with 18 points, Hannah Stuelke had 16, and freshman Teagan Mallegni chipped in 13 points.

Dinnebier scored 28 of Drake’s 38 first-half points, and 19 points in the third quarter alone, but Iowa outscored the Bulldogs couldn’t keep pace. She added 9 of Drake’s 13 points in the final period.

Dinnebier finished 8-for-17 from the field, 7-of-15 from 3-point range and 17-of-20 at the free-throw line. She added a team-high five assists.

The Bulldogs (2-2) are off until they visit Iowa State on Sunday, Nov. 24. Iowa meets Kansas on Wednesday at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
