SPORTS SHORTS: Tiger men tackle Mount Mercy JV in home opener
Four players scored in double figures as the Marshalltown Community College men’s basketball team prevailed over the Mount Mercy JV, winning 105-72 inside the Student Activity Center on Tuesday night.
Justice Small scored a game-high 20 points to lead MCC (2-0), which jumped out to a 50-36 halftime lead. DJ Hamilton and Jayden Hill added 17 points apiece, and Ahmed Ibrahim contributed 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Antwan Bridgett pitched in with nine points and six assists, and Richard Udoagwa added eight points and a team-high nine boards.
The Tigers shot 55.3 percent from the field and outrebounded the Mustangs 40-28.
MCC point guard Bridgett named as an Athlete of the Week
BOONE — Marshalltown Community College sophomore point guard Antwan Bridgett was named an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Bridgett played 29 minutes in MCC’s season-opening men’s basketball victory over Iowa Lakes in Estherville, shooting 7-of-12 from the field on his way to a team-high 17 points in a 78-66 win over the 13th-ranked Lakers.
Bridgett also had six steals, five rebounds (four offensive) and five assists in the win.
MCC women’s hoops hosting ‘Youth Night’ on Monday
The Marshalltown Community College women’s basketball team is hosting “Youth Night” on Monday, Nov. 11, permitting free admission for all students in grades K-8.
The Tigers take on the Clarke University junior varsity in a 5:30 p.m. game at the Student Activity Center. There will be drawings to participate in halftime free-throw contests and drawings for free MCC T-shirts.
