Sports Shorts: Three area girls selected for IGCA senior games

West Marshall’s Bella Borgos, North Tama’s Ava Breakenridge and BCLUW’s Savannah Moeller have been invited to this weekend’s Larry Niemeyer Senior All-Star girls basketball games, held by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association at Cedar Falls High School on Saturday, March 15.

Borgos will play on the 3A Gray team, coached by Crestwood’s Dale Denner, in an 11:45 a.m. matchup; Breakenridge competes on the 1A Gray team coached by Stanton’s Dave Snyder and will play at 3:30 p.m. against Moeller and the 1A White team coached by Janell Burgess of Montezuma.

The slate of five games begins at 10:30 a.m.

GC’s Kirkpatrick invited to IBCA all-star games

Grundy Center senior Jalen Kirkpatrick is one of 48 boys basketball players in Iowa selected for this year’s Senior All-Star Games hosted by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association at Dallas-Center Grimes High School on March 29.

Kirkpatrick will be part of the Northeast Iowa squad coached by Chris Robertson of Linn-Mar and Maquoketa Valley’s Eric Conner along with 11 other players of schools of all classes in the geographical area.

Admission is $5 for the entire day. The event features eight games, four girls and four boys, starting at 10:45 a.m., as well as 3-point contests and recognition of Class Players of the Year and Mr. and Miss Basketball.
