Dominick Nelson
AMES — Iowa State has landed another recruit out of the transfer portal.
The Cyclones scored big with the commitment of Dominick Nelson from Utah Valley, a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 14.4 points and 5.2 rebounds per game on his way to being named the Western Athletic Conference’s Player of the Year.
Nelson shot 44 percent from the field but just 25 percent from 3-point range and 69 percent from the free-throw line.
He helped Utah Valley land the WAC regular-season title at 15-1 and a 25-9 overall record before falling to Grand Canyon in the WAC Tournament championship game and a first-round loss in the National Invitation Tournament.
Nelson played his first two years at Polk State College in Florida, averaging 20 points per game during his sophomore campaign before transferring to Utah Valley. He was a first-team all-Citrus Conference honoree having scored nearly 1,000 points in his two seasons at Polk State.
