IOWA CITY — The Iowa women’s basketball made its first acquisition out of the transfer portal on Wednesday, as former Georgia Tech guard Chazadi “Chit-Chat” Wright committed to the Hawkeyes.
Wright, a 5-foot-4 point guard, started in 12 games and played in all 33 for the Yellowjackets last season, helping Georgia Tech finish eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
She follows her former Georgia Tech assistant coach LaSondra Barrett to the Hawkeye State, as Barrett was hired by the Hawkeyes less than a week ago.
In her freshman campaign, Wright averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 assists, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. She shot 44.3 percent from inside the 3-point arc and 32.3 percent beyond it, contributing to Georgia Tech’s 22-11 overall record.
The addition of Wright helps to replace the void left by former point guards Lucy Olsen, who was drafted into the WNBA, and Aaliyah Guyton, who transferred to Illinois.
Wright is a former four-star recruit from Atlanta who earned first-team all-state honors in 2023 at Wesleyan School in Peachtree Corners, Ga.
She originally chose Georgia Tech over offers from Boston College, James Madison, Seton Hall and Vanderbilt.
