SPORTS SHORTS: Redhawk girls 3rd at Colfax-Mingo Co-Ed
COLFAX — North Tama girls track and field scored 99 points to place third at a Colfax-Mingo Co-Ed Invite on Tuesday.
The Redhawks finished behind Colfax-Mingo (187) and Lynnville-Sully (185) in the team standings. Meskwaki’s girls were sixth with 27 points.
Freshman Shawna Cibula was part of three runner-up finishes for the Redhawks; she earned silver in the 800-meter run and was the anchor of the second-place 4×400 and 4×800 relays.
Olivia Youngblood had the best field event finish, fourth in the high jump after clearing 4-8.
Meskwaki’s Dorothy Bear won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:11.87 and was second in the open 400 to lead the Warrior girls.
Meskwaki was also seventh in the boys team race with 20 points; Emery Roberts led the way with a third-place run in the 400.
STC girls tennis earn first victory
TAMA — South Tama girls tennis defeated Marion, 6-3, at South Tama County High School on Tuesday for the Trojans’ first win of the season.
Hannah Houghton won 8-6 at No. 1 singles and teamed up with Mady Boriskey for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles.
Other singles winners for STC were Neveah Mathes, Kylie Husak and Boriskey. Mathes and Husak added a win at No. 2 doubles.
STC (1-5) heads to Mount Vernon on Thursday.
Polley runner-up at Norsemen Invite
STORY CITY — West Marshall junior Hunter Polley shot a 73 for runner-up honors at the Norsemen Invite hosted by Roland-Story at River Bend Golf Course on Tuesday.
Polley was two strokes back of medalist Ty Haisman of North Polk, who were also team champions with a 309 team score. The Trojans finished sixth at 337 strokes.
Rounding out team scoring was Yuk Yin Wong with an 85, James Decker at 87 and Isaac Anderson carding a 92.
