SPORTS SHORTS: Spartans lead local teams at A-P’s Falcon Invite
PARKERSBURG — The Grundy Center boys’ golf team claimed the top two individual spots along with the title at the Falcon Invite on Monday at Legend Trail Golf Course.
The Spartans shot a 315 to distance themselves from the rest of the 12-team tournament by 10 strokes. Waterloo Columbus was second at 325, followed by East Marshall at 33. West Marshall finished seventh at 361.
Judd Jirovsky and Preston Martens both shot 74 for the low round of the tournament, with Jirovsky winning medalist honors. Fellow Spartan Jaxson Kiewiet was fourth overall with a 76, and Jalen Kirkpatrick rounded out Grundy Center’s team score with a 91.
East Marshall’s Cody Weaver claimed fifth place with a round of 77, and fellow Mustang Jackson Bidwell tied for sixth with a 78. Rylan Weaver (86) and Gage Searle (92) completed East Marshall’s scoring.
Hunter Polley tied for eighth place with a 79 to lead West Marshall. Isaac Anderson contributed an 89 for the Trojans, followed by Carter Pfantz (93) and James Decker (100) to round out West Marshall’s scoring effort.
UNI spring football game is this Saturday
CEDAR FALLS — The University of Northern Iowa football team is hosting its Spring Game on Saturday, May 3, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Falls High School.
New head coach Todd Stepsis and the Panthers will take to the field for this free event, which will be held at Cedar Falls High School due to ongoing renovations inside the UNI-Dome. The game will not be livestreamed.
The new Cedar Falls High School is located just west of the UNI-Dome.
